Within Battlemode, demon players can take on the role of the Archvile, Mancubus, Marauder, Pain Elemental, Revenant, or Dread Knight and use various abilities to defeat the Slayer. The multiplayer side of Doom Eternal is called Battlemode and consists of an asymmetrical 2v1 deathmatch, where two players take on the role of a demon, and the third player takes on the role of the Slayer. These demons are stronger than normal but if killed, give better drops.Įxtra Lives also return from DOOM '16's Arcade mode for use in the main campaign, though have been modified to respawn the player on the spot with no loss in arena progress as oppose to restarting from a checkpoint a limited number of times. There is a new feature called empowered demons, in which demons who have killed a player in another campaign will appear in the player's campaign. Other objects such as field drones and collectible toys make a reappearance. The Slayer still has his twice-jump boots that he picked up in Doom (2016), has further acquired the ability to scale certain roughly-textured walls like an Imp, and soon gains the ability to dash through the air, which combined with jumping, means Doomguy now can traverse large distances of empty air, contributing to the distinctness of the game from Doom '16. With an increased focus on mobility in the game, the DOOM Slayer gains a grappling hook (via the Super Shotgun), the ability to perform two rechargeable dashes anytime, and swing from monkeybars. The Slayer also has access to a new Blood Punch melee attack.ĭoom Eternal has more emphasis on making large jumps and climbs, a bit like a 3-D version of classic Super Mario games. The flame belch stuns enemies and makes them drop armor.

The Doom Slayer is now equipped with a cooldown-style shoulder cannon, which can be used to shoot grenades, ice bombs, or a burst of flame without interrupting attacks. Alternate fire modes returned from DOOM '16 as well and have been rebalanced to make them more viable to switch between. To compensate, the chainsaw, which works the same as in Doom (2016) by providing ammo drops from kills, always has at least one fuel. The weapon set is slightly different, with the notable change of the shotgun being the first weapon, and there is no pistol with infinite ammo. The Ultra-Nightmare difficulty level has been removed, with the game now having the same four difficulty level names as Classic Doom, but the other difficulty levels are somewhat tougher than those in Doom (2016). In such a case, the armor piece is acquired when either of the requirements are met.The single player mode is mostly similar to Doom (2016), but there are a few differences. Player Armor in SnapMap is completely separate from Multiplayer, including the methods of acquisition.Įach individual piece of armor has either an unlock requirement, such as a challenge, or both a challenge and a level requirement. This suit cannot be coloured differently or mixed with other armor. The player may also choose to use the Praetor Suit in multiplayer and SnapMap, but will not retain the use of Runes or Argent cache upgrades as used by the Doom Slayer in the campaign mode.

Within each category, 4 cosmetic variants exist, with variants altering the patterns and color zones of the base style, but not the armor's shape and features (such as the Jaguar variant of Wildcat). The armors available are separated into 8 thematic categories: UAC, Demonic, Utilitarian, Templar, Bounty Hunter, Robotic, Cyberdemonic and Evil Cultist. The player may modify the armor's categoric pieces, primary and secondary colors, light color, pattern, and wear: dirt and scratches for the armor itself, and weathering for the coloring. The Armor in the multiplayer mode of 2016's incarnation of DOOM is purely a cosmetic function.
